Most cross-border firms know one side well and improvise the other. UK Impetus is built differently.
The gap between the UK and China is not a translation problem. It is an operational one. A London advisor who has never spent a working week in Beijing will misjudge what is normal there. A Beijing consultancy that has never opened a UK bank account will miss the small frictions that derail a launch. Both sides hire intermediaries, and both sides end up disappointed by what gets lost in between.
UK Impetus exists to close that gap by operating on both sides as a single team. We run a UK company and a Beijing sister entity, invoice locally on either end, and share one playbook. When a client engages us, they are not paying a UK firm to coordinate with a Chinese partner — they are working with one organisation that simply happens to operate in two jurisdictions.
Contracts with UK clients, invoices in GBP, operates under UK law and UK professional standards. Based in London.
A separate legal entity in Beijing. Contracts with Chinese clients, invoices in RMB, handles on-the-ground delivery inside China. Shares partners and methods with the UK company.
The two entities are not a franchise or a referral arrangement. They share leadership, share clients across borders where the work calls for it, and present one face to anyone working with us. Local invoicing for tax and regulatory reasons; one team for everything else.
A small core team is not enough on its own. UK Impetus works with a curated network of specialists on both sides — lawyers and accountants in London and Beijing, education advisors, healthcare coordinators, property professionals, regional government contacts, and trade-association partners. We bring them in when a project genuinely needs them, and we vouch for the ones we use.
We are not a translator between two worlds. We are a working presence in both.
UK Impetus is run by a small bilingual team operating across London and Beijing. Our backgrounds span financial services, international education, hospitality, and property — not a single sector specialism, because cross-border work rarely respects one. What unifies us is that every member of the team has lived and worked on both sides; we don't outsource the China side, and we don't outsource the UK side.
We work in English and Mandarin to a professional standard, and we expect to be judged on outcomes — not on how impressively we describe what we are about to do.
If you have a project in mind, or simply want to understand how we might help, write to us with a short description of what you are working on. We reply within one working day.
